'The Service' draws on the canonincal and apocryphal material which make up the traditional Vita Mariae Virginis. It is told by three female voicesâ€”those of Anna (mother of the Virgin), Mary and Elizaebthâ€”in counterpoint with a fourth, Jerusalem, related in the third person.Â
